Epocrates for the iphone , We will be waiting..

Many of my friends and colleagues said YES that’s it we will go for the iPhone as long as Epocrates now compatible with it!

However we are still anxiously waiting for Apple to allow third party developers to make (native) iPhone software (Read this guide) and what Epocrates has done is that they just made their online free drug database to be accessed easier on the iPhone (it was accessable before but with no touch technology). See Epocrates announcement.

What about Epocrates Sx, Dx, Lab and all the wondeful tools of Epocrates Essentials, NO they are not there for the iPhone at least for the moment.

Apple’s iPhone is a phenomenal device and a revolution in the field of smartphones and if they start to embrace the medical field we will be very lucky to have the iPhone serving us not only in our personal needs with its fabulous picturing, navigation, touch technology …etc but also for our daily clinical needs..

Dear iPhone…We are waiting eagerly…

I wish to clarify your post regarding Epocrates. You are correct that at the present time only Epocrates’ online free drug database is available for use on the iPhone. However, Apple recently announced in March that they will open up the iPhone to 3rd party developers. In fact, versions of the iPhone software developers kit are already available and Epocrates was one of the first companies invited by Apple to demonstrate their iphone-native programs!

If you go to the Epocrates website right now, you will see that they are in fact working on an iPhone native version, which does not require internet access:

Epocrates developers are currently working on a non-browser based version of our product that will not require an internet connection – so that users can access our content anywhere, anytime.

Epocrates on iPhone is coming soon!

  3. Thank you very much Steve for the info.
I was not aware that Apple opened the software for third party developers and that’s great news.
I already changed the title and some of the content of the post to reflect the new changes.

You may have caught a glimpse of Epocrates’ much anticipated iPhone native application during the SDK event in March. We are excited to announce that healthcare professionals can now download Epocrates free clinical software on their iPhone and iPod Touch for free!

The Epocrates drug and formulary reference is already the featured Health & Fitness download in the App Store. Designed specifically for the iPhone platform, the clinical software features a drug identifier tool that helps doctors determine a patient’s existing medication with a physical description (e.g., round, blue and scored).

See why patient visits may never be the same with the visually rich pill pictures and important prescribing information at http://www.epocrates.com/products/rx/iphone.html.
