DocGuide, your journal community on the iPhone

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

DocGuide a website that provides individualized insight into the latest updates and literature filtered from over 200 well recognized national and international journals has recently released an iPhone app that allows access to our account on the go.

One of the great features of DocGuide is that subscribers can star an interesting article they have just read which translates into a voting system enabling us to see which articles have shaken the boat recently.

DocGuide is a physician only community in that they check the license of each and every subscriber. This is good in ensuring a pure doctors rating of the articles.

Another great feature of DocGuide App is that it’s highly individualized and tailored to our needs. For example when you choose pediatrics you get to see only those articles that are of interest in pediatrics and even you can segment that into what type of articles you want to see such as pure research, clinical, news and press and others.

Not only that, but you get to choose what journals, diseases, and drugs [see screenshots above] you want to keep an eye on!

The app is free [download in iTunes] and subscription to DocGuide is also free.

The only missing feature from this great journal app is the ability to earn CME credit. Nowadays, it’s hard to convince a physician to read an article on the go without simultaneously earning CME on the fly.

Swine Flu on your handheld!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

So not only the TV and the Internet has been flooded by Swine flu news. Medical PDA developers quickly responded and posted updates right into our handhelds.

Meistermed published a new updated iSilo document that can be downloaded into any mobile here’s an iPod Touch example;

The above iSilo document is also available for all other platforms a free download from this page http://www.meistermed.com/swineflu and the iSilo reader is available for all platforms here and for your iPhone/iPod Touch download it from iTunes here.

It includes last hour information updates as it’s released from the CDC. However, it’s not automatically updated and you’d have redownload the file should it gets updated.

If you are subscribed to Skyscape MedAlerts then you’ll also get some updates about Swine flu here’s some screen shots;

Micromedex also sent emails that their Clinical Xpert is now update with the latest swine flu info.

So let’s closely monitor the pandamic on our PDAs …

Skyscape Medalerts, a great free service

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

If you have a look at the current voting results of the Best Free PDA application poll on Pda4peds you see that Skyscape’s MedAlerts ranks the second best.

This post is to revisit this cool free service from Skyscape, specially with the latest improvements that we noticed.

Here’s how it looks on Windows Mobile;

One of the most important enhancement recently added to MedAlerts is the push notifications. So that not only when we dock and synchronize the device we get the latest news but also these feeds can be pushed into the device if we choose to do so [as seen on the screenshots above].

The app will find your internet connection whether it’s Wifi or 3G and get you the news right in.

Another new feature recently added, is the option to send the news to our friends via email. A new small email icon now appears next to the title [circled in red in the screenshot above] which if tapped will allow us to choose the email addresses that we want to send the news to.

As we mentioned before, Skyscape MedAlerts can be totally specialty specific by choosing from the list in the Skyscape/my account page and it installs with a free desktop version.

Further detailed reviews of MedAlerts on Pocket PC and MedAlerts on iPhone are available on Pda4peds.

MedWorm, a Customizable Medical Feed!

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

If you go to the pediatric RSS feeds list in pda4peds website you will see a number of services that offer news and updates in the form of RSS feeds.

Medworm

Of all these services Medworm stands out, for a simple reason, it actually summerizes all the medical feeds that are available and filter out what we specifically needs. So for example we can have the pediatric news channel feed which means a combination of all the great news websites such as Medpage Today, Medscape, Medical News Today and all others. Not only news organizations but also blogs, journals, and podcasts.

Medworm Pediatric Channel

Even a search query can be converted into an RSS feed, so if you want to have a special ADHD feed just search the Medworm for ADHD and click on RSS icon in the results page and viola you’ll have all the RSS feeds concerning ADHD on earth!

Not only that but also the results page can be listed according to last published, or most relavant, and amazingly can be filtered to include only the resources that we want so in the ADHD example above you will be filter out specific blogs, or specific drug info, or specific specialty (psychaitry) and so on …

The website also offers membership and each user can have his/her specified feeds ready made and available and can discuss on each news story and feed.

This is a great technology and really helps out of the confusion of the rapdily increasing number of pediatric feeds and let us have a customized pediatric feed to our convinience. Thank you Frankie Dolan for the great service.

If you like it enough don’t forget to vote for it as the best pediatric RSS feeds….

Medical News Today’ for The Pediatric Handheld

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Medical News Today one of the best websites when it comes to medical news and updates with RSS feeds round the clock.

It has a special pediatric section where all child health related issues and news are found.

Fortunately it can be syndicated using any RSS reader like your internet browser or your PDA feeds reader such as Mobipocket or NewsBreak. To learn more about how to read RSS feeds and listen to podcasts see this Pediatric PDA guide.

Medical News Today as read by NewsBreak

The feeds are essentially the latest breaking news in pediatrics ranging from recent research studies to commentaries on prominent articles in high profile journals to legal and economic issues of common pediatric interest with a full database of archives dating back to 2003.

This is a must have RSS feed that every pediatrician should read in the morning (better than what happened to Britney News!).

Have a look at pda4peds review page .

If you like this RSS feed don’t forget that you can vote for it in the best RSS feeds poll.

Skyscape Medalerts New Feature!

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

We noticed a new feature in the Skyscape Medalerts that we get on our handhelds..

We can see the new button here “Request Info via Email”, well I did tap on it

But I did not receive any info! further more there was no more such an option with their subsequent alerts!

It seems that they changed their minds and removed the option, I guess..

Any one knows more about this issue?
